About the Role:
We are seeking enthusiastic students or recent graduates to join our Automation & Engineering team at our Heerlen Distribution Center (DC) for an internship or practical experience. As an intern/ trainee , you will become an integral part of our highly automated facility, working with cutting-edge automation technologies, including pouch systems, shuttles, GTP, sorters, and conveyors. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, contribute to real-world automation projects, and gain insights into the dynamic world of logistics automation.
Our goal is to onboard 1-2 trainees who will support the team during the go-live phase of Heerlen DC, scheduled for August 31, 2025. You will receive extensive training and mentorship from senior automation professionals while working on exciting projects that drive efficiency and innovation.
We are ideally looking for someone to join us for six months , but we are very flexible depending on your availability. Shorter or longer durations are also possible.
Following the internship, there is the potential for a permanent junior-level position , depending on performance and business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Automation & Engineering team in daily operations and ongoing projects
- Assist in the implementation and optimization of automation solutions within the facility
- Work closely with senior engineers and managers on system performance analysis and improvement initiatives
- Gain hands-on experience with automation technologies and warehouse control systems (WCS, WMS, ERP)
- Contribute to troubleshooting and maintenance activities to ensure seamless system operation
- Participate in cross-functional collaborations with operations, IT, and external automation suppliers
- Develop technical reports and documentation to support automation improvements
Requirements:
- Currently studying or recently graduated with a bachelor or master's degree in Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field
- Strong interest in automation, robotics, and logistics technologies
- Basic knowledge of WCS, WMS, PLCs, and mechatronics is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and highly automated environment
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to learning
- Fluent in English
